Serie A Round 34 Review: Juve just can't win

    Bologna 1 - 2 Reggina
    Inter Milan 2 - 0 Lazio
    Udinese 3 - 0 Atalanta
    Palermo 5 - 1 Cagliari
    AS Roma 0 - 0 Chievo Verona
    Juventus 2 - 2 Lecce
    Catania 0 - 2 AC Milan
    Siena 2 - 1 Napoli
    Fiorentina 1 - 0 Torino
    Genoa 3 - 1 Sampdoria

Juventus were thwarted by an injury time equaliser from Lecce's Argentine midfielder Juan Castillo as the Gobbini, after leading 2-1, surrendered like Ricky Hatton against a half-decent boxer. The fabulously named Ivorian striker Axel Konan had given the southern visitors an early lead in Turin, only for Pavel Nedved to score twice in 12 second half minutes to set things straight for Rainier's men. Castillo's introduction for Konan, with 9 minutes to go, proved crucial as he bundled home to give Lecce a potentially vital point. Juve are now winless in six and Rainieri must fear for his job.

Inter had no such problems against Lazio, ending a run of four games without a win through goals from Sulley Muntari and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has moved level with Marco Di Vaio on 21 goals for the season. With 4 matches remaining and a 7 point lead, Inter are within touching distance of the title and if they win next week and AC Milan fail to, the Serie A crown will be theirs. Of course their city rivals probably will make this chase a little longer given the form they are in, after they collected a fifth straight win at Catania with goals in each half from Inzaghi and Kaka. The Sicillians have now lost 4 from their last 6 and their season has ended with a whimper.

Fiorentina beat relegation-threatened Torino at the Artemio Franchi to remain in fourth thanks to a solitary strike, his second in a week, from Juan Vargas. Genoa emerged victorious from the Genoa derby after beating Sampdoria 3-1; Diego Milito scored a hat-trick to further endear himself to the Grifone faithful; Sampdoria have won just one from six. Palermo produced a fearsome performance to leapfrog Cagliari with a 5-1 win, Miccoli, Cavani and Tedesco all getting on the scoresheet. Roma were held at home to Chievo.
