With holders Internacional having a bye into the last 16 Universidad de Chile became the first team to join them after an excellent 1-0 victory in Cali. Walter Montillo with the only goal of the game in the 68th minute for Universidad who now face Internacional in the last 16. Cerro Porteño made sure of their passage with a comfortable 2-0 win at altitide in La Paz. The tie was effectively over when Roberto Nanni put Cerro Porteño ahead with only 7 minutes on the clock. Julio Dos Santos wrapped things up just past the half hour but Ronald Segiova got a consolation for La Paz in the second half. Finally 2003 winner Cienciano disposed of Liverpool of Montevideo with a 2-0 victory after last weeks goalless draw. Cristian Guevara put Cienciano ahead with a cracking free kick before an own goal from Carlos Santucho put the nail in Liverpool's coffin.
